We've all heard the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" - French hens, drummers, swans and everything else.
More than 40 years ago, Provident National Bank in Philadelphia (now PNC) started tracking the costs of each of those items as a fun measurement of CPI - Christmas Price Index.
The 2025 Christmas Price Index has been released, and it's no surprise that some costs of increased - while others stayed flat. Some of the highlights:
- A Partridge in a Pear Tree went up 13.5%, due to the costs of "land, labor and fertilizer costs" - not because the partridge demanded a pay raise.
- Five Gold Rings are up nearly 33%, as the precious metal has seen a significant uptick across the globe.
- Ten Lords a-Leaping will cost 8.1% more than last year, as live entertainment costs escalate.
- The most expensive items on the list didn't have a price increase in 2025 - but Seven Swans A-Swimming will run you over $13,000 for an appearance.
Overall, for your "true love" to give you everything in the song (remember the repeats in the tune make for 364 presents in total), he or she will need just over $218,000.
