Tax Relief for Disabled Hoosier Veterans

Tax Relief for Disabled Hoosier Veterans

June 01, 2026

On Wednesday, May 28, Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed a property tax relief bill into law.  The bill is for disabled Hoosier veterans, providing new tax benefits.

According to an article from WTHR, the new law "increases the tax deduction for veterans with a 100% disability rating from $14,000 to 100% of assessed value."  That means qualifying disabled veterans will not pay any property taxes on their primary residences.

The new law also removes the $240,000 assessed value cap.

The article also states that the new law will replace property tax deductions with annual tax credits.  Veterans who are partially disabled will receive a tax credit based on their disability rating.
