The other day I pulled a heavy coat out of my closet to wear. It was the first time I had worn the coat in several months - and when I stuck my hands in my pockets, I found $14 in cash. Not a lot - likely change from a $20 - but it was still nice to discover.
It made me also think "What else is out there I might have forgotten?" That led me to the Indiana Unclaimed Property website, where you can search by your name (or business) and see if there might be some funds out there that you have forgotten. The website is free to use, and you will see other people who have the same last name and details on their unclaimed money. According to the website, nearly $80M has been returned to Hoosiers in 2025.
A quick glance through the results show the amount owed and the "property type" - the source of the funds - as well as addresses and the year the funds were reported.
Take a moment to look for your name and see if you have any unclaimed funds. You will have to prove your identity in order to claim the money, and the process may take a bit of time. However, if you find your name on the list, and can prove you are owed the funds, you might have your next lunch covered.
